ENTREPRENEUR’S GUIDE TO THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Holiday Guide for Entrepreneurs
+

While many people think the holiday season is all about winding down, with almost every other email returning an out-of-office response, others are maximizing the season of goodwill, finding it easier to make those all-important connections.

There are lots of things to add to your to-do list before the holidays get started, and a number of ways you can maximize your contacts, spread some seasonal goodwill and prepare for a flying start to 2017!

Check out our festive mini-guide, perfect for every busy executive…

FILL THE CALENDAR, ATTEND THE EVENTS.

It’s the party season, so get involved in the celebrations. A whole host of events and functions take place at this time of year, from festive business lunches to special networking events. Fill your diary, and attend as many events as you can, even if only for 30 minutes. If you’re company is hosting a Christmas party, make sure you attend, spend some time with your co-workers and have fun. Getting to know your colleagues and bosses outside of the office makes life easier…

NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK.

With so many events and functions to attend, make sure you’re networking efficiently. Whether attending a lunch or evening party, pop a few business cards in your bag, and get to know people. It’s the perfect time to catch up with old contacts and colleagues, as well as making new ones.

BE GRATEFUL & SAY THANKS!

The season of goodwill is perfect for thanking those who have helped you throughout the year. Whether co-workers, managers or clients, be sure to send a greeting card or even a festive email, wishing them well, and thanking them for how they have helped make your year a success. Make your message as personal as possible. This small gesture can go a long way in developing sincere relationships – a vital component in business.

REVIEW YOUR YEAR

While the holidays can be a hectic period, business usually quietens down for at least a few days, providing a useful opportunity to assess your year and look ahead. Look at how you have managed your business and career goals. Think about what worked well, and what didn’t work out quite so successfully, getting started on your goals for next year.

ORGANIZE A TEAM GATHERING

If you work within a team or have staff members, bring them together for a group reflection session. This could be in the form of a lunch or dinner. The idea of the session is to take suggestions as to how the business can work even better next year, building relationships and motivating each individual.

BUY YOUR 2017 DIARY & PLAN AHEAD

Get your new diary purchased before the holidays, and fill in any key dates and appointments that you may have booked for January. Getting a wall planner in preparation means that you can “hit the ground running” when you return to the office, and feel organized.

TAKE A BREAK

If you are lucky enough to have a few vacation days left, use it to extend the festive period. Enjoy time with friends and family, and switch off to prepare both body and mind for the busy year ahead.
